Road Trip - February 2002

We headed out on Sunday morning, drove right on through the day and stopped in Pendleton. That's in Oregon for you foureners. Cowboy country! As we were leaving town, we spotted something on the shoulder of the road. A quick U-turn in the parking lot and taDA! I now own a tool box. Some kid is gonna be in trouble when he gets to work.

We spent the second night, Monday, in Scipio, south of SLC, in Utah. We hit SLC just about dark and it was slushing. But we couldn't find a room at any inn in that city. Mom promptly lost my brand new journal the next morning. *sniff* It was WAY cold out. No need to buy ice for the cooler around there!

We arrived in Vegas on Tuesday, checked into the Excalibur for two nights. There was a convention in town, so they claim, and we had to pay way more than usual. Rats! We spent houts sitting at the nickel machines. I liked the three hands at a time Poker touch sensitive ones. Ducky did too!

We left Las Vegas on Thursday, drove through Virgin River canyon, over Hoover dam, beside the south rim of the Grand Canyon and through the Painted Desert. WOW!!

On Friday morning, we continued south through Arizona; via Peoria with the MLB training camp. We passed warning signs to beware of flying objects and what do you know. A ball came bouncing in front of us. SNAG!! An authentic Ms baseball!! We loitered and gawked and watched. Anytime someone even remotely having anything to do with the Ms walked by, mom would ask them to "Please tell Edgar that I'm out here." He never did come out. But Mike Cameron did!! He signed our baseball. Some other guy was signing balls so mom got in line. I think he was the bat boy. Oh well!
What a PARCHED country! I really appreciate our endless wet which gives us green lawns and snow capped peaks. I'll never trade! We surprised Kay (my cuzin) for her 40th birthday. I've never seen anyone bug their eyes out that many times at once!

Saturday morning, I left mom in Gilbert's hands and headed north. I'd hoped to meet up with Dark but no such luck. :( I was ahead of schedule and she was busy. I continued right on past and stopped in some highway hotel and zonked out to a COPS marathon. Life is good!

On Sunday morning, I made it to Lodi in plenty of time for the Germans from Russia meeting. I bought me an apfel kuchen for the road at the end of the meeting and back to driving. Only 500 more miles until home!

Home!! At last! I made it home on Monday afternoon. Sorry, Ro...I didn't stop AGAIN. :)
No more crackers and soda pop while driving. Hey! It wastes time to stop for food. I wanna GO!
